LIC gala celebrates local organizations

The outdoor patio of the new JACX building on Jackson Avenue in Long Island City was transformed into a ballroom this past week for the Long Island City Partnership’s Annual Awards Gala.
Now in it’s 32nd year, one business and one community group is honored each year for their contributions to the Long Island City community.
“All of us at Long Island City Partnership are thrilled to be able to host the 32nd Annual Awards Gala and to celebrate those, including our awardees, who continue to help us through this unprecedented era,” said Elizabeth Lusskin, president of Long Island City Partnership.
Plaxall, a pioneering company in the plastics industry, has been located in Long Island City for 75 years. Located on the Anabale Basin, the business has also helped develop Hunters Point Plaza, Culture Lab LIC, and other properties in western Queens.
“After a year where so many stepped up, my family and I are honored to receive this award that shines a light on the importance of giving back,” said Plaxall managing director Matthew Quigley. “Our family has been a part of this community for more than 75 years and we were proud to join our neighbors by providing food relief and access to vaccination clinics.”
The Floating Hospital has been in operation since 1866, and provides healthcare, social support, and other services to families living in homeless shelters.
The Floating Hospital also serves public housing and low-income residents in Long Island City, assisting with testing, vaccinations, and more during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Floating Hospital is delighted to accept this year’s Modell Community Service Award,” “As long-standing and active members of both the Long Island City community and the Partnership,
“We were proud to bring critical resources like COVID testing and vaccination clinics to the neighborhood’s most vulnerable populations,” said Dr. Shani Andre, vice president and chief marketing officer. We look forward to continuing our work, ensuring that everyone in Long Island City has access to the quality medical, dental and behavioral health services they need for generations to come.”
