Right to worship

Dear Editor,

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio has taken the case of religious freedom all the way to the Supreme Court.

With his executive order on October 6, Governor Andrew Cuomo closed houses of worship in certain areas of Brooklyn and Queens and restricted attendance in other areas due to the coronavirus. Yet other essential businesses can remain open.

This borders on restrictions on religious freedoms.

I have seen firsthand what these churches are doing ever week to keep people safe. I have been to St. Anastasia Parish in Douglaston and to Lady of the Snows in Floral Park and seen church goers and leaders following safety precautions like roping off every other pew, wearing masks, and urging social distancing. They also disinfect pews before and after each Mass.

I hope the Supreme Court rules in favor of Bishop DiMarzio for religious freedom here in New York and elsewhere.

Sincerely,

Frederick R.Bedell, Jr.

Bellerose
