The 44,189 fans in attendance at Opening Day had several reasons to be excited this year. Prior to the game, fans of the team remained hopeful and predicted success for during the long season ahead.
“As long as they stay healthy, especially Syndergaard, Harvey, and Cespedes, we should have a lot of wins this year,” said Jason Ramdeo, who predicted at least a wildcard spot.
Other fans pointed out the return of outfielder Jay Bruce and maintained that new third baseman Todd Frazier will help the team when it comes to power.
Some saw little competition when it came to division rivals like the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins, and were optimistic about new manager Mickey Callaway.
Fans young and old showed up as early as 9 a.m. to tailgate in the rain.
“Our friends and family have been meeting here and tailgating for about five or six years now,” said Alexis Ramos. “It’s good to get ready for the season and stay positive.”
