Or more accurately the “wireless” life, as the Queens Zoo last week launched free Wi-Fi service, which will be available to visitors. The zoo is the 24th park to receive the service, which is provided by AT&T.
“Through this collaboration, we are able to offer zoo visitors a truly interactive and shared experience,” said Marissa Shorenstein, president of AT&T New York. “From learning about the animals to connecting with their friends and family.”
Anyone with a Wi-Fi enabled device will be able to connect to the service and learn about the animals and other activities going on at the zoo.
To kick off the new service, the zoo is hosting a month-long photo contest. Visitors can take photos of their favorite animals at the zoo, and then email them to QZPhoto@wcs.org.
The winning photo will be featured on the zoo’s website, and the photographer will receive a family membership to Wildlife Conservation Society parks in the city.
Craig Gibbs, assistant curator for the Queens Zoo, said the zoo was excited about the Wi-Fi service, and sees visitors using it as a way to learn more about the animals they are seeing in person.
“We are margining the natural world and the digital world,” he said. “We see this as a perfect synthesis between technology and experience.”
