The Space Shuttle Enterprise officially touched down in Queens at John F. Kennedy Airport Friday morning, after making a pass around Lower Manhattan and such landmarks as the Statue of Liberty.

NASA decommissioned the Space Shuttle last year, donating the four shuttles to various museums throughout the country. Enterprise’s permanent home will be at the Intrepid Air & Space Museum.

It will remain at JFK for a couple of weeks while it is safely removed from the 747 jet it rode on. It will then be put on a barge in early June and transported up the Hudson River, when it will be placed on the flight deck of the Intrepid.

A pavilion will be constructed over it, and then Enterprise will begin welcoming visitors.
