FILE - This April 2, 2014 file photo shows former Northwestern University football quarterback Kain Colter, right, and Ramogi Huma, founder and president of the National College Players Association arrive on Capitol Hill in Washington. The United Steelworkers union and college football players may seem like an unlikely pairing. Yet the sprawling union is locked in a high-stakes standoff with Northwestern University over whether student athletes on scholarships should be allowed to unionize, engage in collective bargaining and even strike. But it’s been a long time since the Steelworkers Union just represented workers at steel mills and in other jobs directly related to steel. (AP Photo/Lauren Victoria Burke, File)EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern football players will file into an on-campus hall adjacent to their home stadium to cast secret ballots Friday on whether to form the nation's first union for college athletes.

Ukraine is pressing on with its operation against pro-Russian rebels in the east and has ample military resources to keep up the offensive round the clock, the interior minister said on Friday. Arsen Avakov dismissed talk that Kiev suspended its "anti-terrorist operation" (ATO) in the face of threats from Moscow after Ukrainian troops closed in on the rebel stronghold. "There has been no suspension of the ATO in connection to the threat of invasion by Russia's armed forces," he wrote on his Facebook page.
