The loss marked the first of the season for St. John’s (13-3-1, 6-2-1 Big East) against an unranked opponent. The Friars (12-5, 5-3) entered the game winning five of their last six matches.
Regardless, St. John’s had already secured the second seed in this week’s Big East Men’s Soccer Championship. The Red Storm were scheduled to host the winner of Saturday’s quarterfinal matchup between third-seeded Providence and sixth-seeded Marquette on Wednesday at Belson Stadium.
St. John’s six wins during regular season play were the most for the program since the conference title campaign of 2009, when the Johnnies went 6-1-4 against league foes.
The winner of Wednesday’s semifinal will earn a spot in the Big East Men’s Soccer Championship Final, which will take place on Sunday, November 17, at 12 p.m. on FS2. The higher seed will host the game.
