Frenzied fans exicted for St. John's basketball

The 2019-20 basketball season got underway in style last Friday night, as a performance by Juice WRLD highlighted the St. John’s University’s annual Red Storm Tip-Off celebration inside Carnesecca Arena.

In addition to a concert from one of the world’s hottest up-and-coming artists, fans were also introduced to the 2019-20 men’s and women’s basketball rosters and coaching staffs.

The men’s team also scrimmaged for 16 minutes in front of the capacity crowd of 5,000-plus. Josh Roberts and Marcellus Earlington scored 16 points each to lead the Red team past the White team, 52-47.

Mustapha Heron led all scorers with 17 points.

Head coaches, Mike Anderson and Joe Tartamella also shared their excitement for the upcoming campaign.

The St. John’s men’s team, in its first season under the direction on Anderson, will open up 2019-20 on November 6 against Mercer inside Carnesecca Arena.

The women’s team, after kicking off the campaign at St. Bonaventure on November 5, will play its home opener on November 13 against Lafayette.
