Local dogs meet at Cunningham Park
There’s no question that this past winter was one for the ages. But now that the snow is all gone and spring is slowly creeping in, it is due time to have some fun with your four legged friends at some of Queens’ biggest and best dog parks.

Flushing Meadows Corona Park is the biggest park in Queens with 1,255 acres of land. It is home to Citi Field Stadium, USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and much more. While the park boasts all of those features, it also offers the perfect bonding opportunity for you and your pet. Playing frisbee or catch on land and hitting the boats and going fishing on the lake are two of many activities the dog friendly park has to offer.

Forest Park, which stretches through Woodhaven, Glendale, Kew Gardens and Forest Hills, offers an off-leash and a run for you and your dog. Located on 85 Street and 84 Street and Park Lane South, this park gives your dog the chance to strut their stuff in a free environment. You can also take a stroll or jog down one of the park’s many historic paths and enjoy the woodsy scenery filled with red and white oak trees.

At only 59 acres, Astoria Park is still a sight for sore eyes. Located in Ditmars, right by the East River, it holds an amazing view of Manhattan and is directly under the Triborough Bridge. The dog friendly park allows your dog to socialize with others in an open area.

Other dog friendly parks in Queens include Cunningham Park, Alley Pond Park, Rainey Park, and Queensbridge Park, among others.

The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation welcomes owners and dogs alike as long as the designated rules are followed. Many offer off-leash fun given the dog is kept under control and the owner provides a copy of rabies vaccines if necessary. Also, owners are required to obtain a dog license from the park.
