Dear Editor,

Thank you fellow Americans for exorcising the cancer that has been infecting our country for the last four years.

We can now follow the advice of experts to fight the pandemic, rejoin the World Health Organization, re-enter the Paris Climate Agreement, and undo much of the damage that has been done by the Trump presidency.

We should especially thank the people of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, who enabled us to return to democracy from the brink of authoritarianism and tyranny.

As former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich said, Donald Trump is the closest we have ever come to a dictator.

It is heartbreaking and difficult to believe that so many Americans could fall under the spell of a racist, lying and corrupt president who denied facts and science and promoted division. This is a man with no values, no morals, no empathy and no conscience, yet he was wholly embraced by the Republican Party.

Thankfully Joe Biden, our next president, has character, integrity, empathy and all of the other attributes we should value in a president. We will be able to believe what he says and trust that he will do his best for our country.

As bells rang out in Paris to celebrate Biden's election, it's mayor tweeted, "Welcome back America." Amen.

Sincerely,

Linda Imhauser

Whitestone
